The New Basic is to .ZIP The project is a site-specific solution for two problems which manifest themselves to some capacity in every urban environment: [1.] residual spaces are a product of continuous transformation, and [2.] the lack of inclusive public spaces are a product of unplanned cities. By understanding the context of a city, the project not only responds to a site-specific analysis, but to the many layers of information that are precipitated in this colonial city: Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, South America.
The master plan is comprised of 3 modes of intervention seeking to resolve the issues manifested in unprogrammed residual spaces by introducing
new compressed programming that utilizes vernacular materials and enhances social and cultural interaction:
[1.] The generation of urban plazas as catalysts.
[2.] The enhancement of social circuitry to convey information that is accessible and beneficial to all people.
[3.] The improvement of the environmental conditions on the coast that telegraph experiences of the inner data.
