URBAN SINAPSIS

Location: Miami, Florida, EU

Area: 2.7 miles corridor

Type: Cultural icon, transportation corridor, urban park.

One of the most critical problems is the privilege of the automobile over the pedestrian right-of-way. US1, an important transportation corridor sets a critical boundary within the city. The lack of connectivity between both sides of the highway, a reduced spectrum of activities and a deficit of public space accentuates even more the gap. The proposal involves the development of a series of connectivity areas. The design approach minimizes the stretch of the linear space into distinct community areas we call nodes. Each node tells a different story based on historical, cultural and commercial aspects of the

neighborhood.

The Linkages| Each node will be representative of a hub of local businesses, community centers, schools, and government and nonprofit entities that we would involve in the pre-design stages of the project.

Urban Landscape | is an artery of a greater Urban Ecosystem. This includes the allusion of representative Coastal Hammock and Pine Rockland ecosystems, which offer habitat to South Florida’s threatened fauna; can recharge and purify water for our aquifers.

Goal | Those areas will work as linkage, improving quantity and quality of public space enhancing the historical value and will privilege pedestrian mobility.
